Picnicking and playing chase on the beautiful lawns at Kenwood House in Hampstead
A walk around the grounds of Kenwood House in Hampstead is an absolute pleasure and one of my favourite things to do in London at any time of year. The beautifully landscaped grounds were designed in the 18th century and are best admired by taking in the circuit walk which also boasts a series of evocative views across London. Whether going for an early morning jog or picnic on the beautiful lawns, it’s wonderful to be able to take advantage of all this fabulous place has to offer. You often forget you’re so close to central London!
The estate incorporates a farm, lakes, woods and meadows so there’s always plenty to do for the whole family. The kids love rolling down the steep grass verges and running freely around the large expanse of grass. After an energetic walk down to the duck pond and beyond you can enjoy lunch in the lovely walled garden. There are some great homemade sandwiches and cakes to be had but my favourite thing by far is the granola and yogurt breakfast from the takeaway bar.
One of the best times to visit is in the in the summer when they hold evening concerts by the lake. You can take a picnic and blankets and enjoy the summer evenings sipping Pimms and listening to wonderful music in the most majestic of settings. Truly magnificent!
